Have you checked the weather on the news lately, or just looked out the window? It’s cold! It seems like it’s only going to get colder over the long term. So much for global warming right!
Not only is the weather making it a pain to get to your place of duty, but then as a correctional officer, you’re most likely surrounded by concrete and steel bars on the job which only can make matters worse and drain your energy and mental focus for the duration of your shift.
Now the folks on the east coast of the United States have generally received the brunt of the severe winter weather in recent years, which is now affecting the southeastern states as well. On the west coast, we haven’t as of yet received anything nearly as long-lasting and damaging as of yet, but I’m sure it’s coming, and when it comes I want to be ready.
So with that said, I wanted to put together a list of basic essentials for dealing with the cold weather as a prison guard, but really for anyone in law enforcement that wants to increase there thermal protection from the cold without adding a lot of bulk to the appearance of their uniform.
